Day 1: Remember Honestly
Scripture: Ephesians 2:11–12
“Remember that you were at that time separated from Christ … having no hope and without God in the world.”
Short Thought:
Renewal begins with remembering our need for grace. Before Christ, we could not overcome our separation from God through goodness, religion, or effort. Remembering this humbles us and renews our gratitude. We approach others as people who have received undeserved mercy. When we remember how desperately we needed Christ, we become more willing to extend grace to one another.
Action:
Spend a few minutes thanking God for saving you. Ask Him to reveal any pride, entitlement, or discouragement that has taken root in your heart.
Prayer:
Father, help me remember my need for Your grace. Replace my pride with humility and my complaints with gratitude. Teach me to treat others with the mercy You have shown me. Amen.
Questions:
- How does remembering your life apart from Christ affect your gratitude for salvation?
- Where might pride or entitlement be affecting your relationships within the church?
Day 2: Return to Christ Deeply
Scripture: Ephesians 2:13–14
“But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ. For he himself is our peace.”
Short Thought:
The words “but now” announce a remarkable change. Through His blood, Jesus brings those who were far away into fellowship with God. He Himself is our peace and the source of our unity. Church renewal begins as we turn our hearts toward Him. Programs and plans have their place, but our deepest need is to know Christ, depend on Him, and walk closely with Him.
Action:
Set aside ten uninterrupted minutes to read these verses and pray. Bring one concern about your church to Jesus, asking Him to shape your response.
Prayer:
Jesus, thank You for bringing me near through Your blood. Draw my heart back to You. Help our church depend on Your presence and follow Your leadership. Be our peace as we walk together. Amen.
Questions:
- What has been distracting you from close fellowship with Christ?
- How could depending on Jesus change the way you respond to concerns about your church?
Day 3: Repent Personally
Scripture: Ephesians 2:14–16
Read how Christ broke down the dividing wall of hostility and reconciled both Jews and Gentiles to God through the cross.
Short Thought:
Jesus gave His life to reconcile us to God and unite us in one body. Our attitudes toward one another matter deeply to Him. Bitterness, pride, and unfounded suspicion damage the fellowship He created. Personal repentance begins when we ask God to examine our own hearts. We can acknowledge real wounds while allowing Him to confront the sinful ways we have responded to them.
Action:
Ask God to show you one attitude or behavior that contributes to division. Confess it specifically and identify one change you will make today.
Prayer:
Lord, search my heart. Show me where I have allowed resentment, pride, or suspicion to shape my actions. Forgive me and help me turn from these things. Let Your grace guide my words and responses. Amen.
Questions:
- Where have your words, assumptions, or actions contributed to distance between you and another believer?
- What would genuine repentance look like in that situation?
Day 4: Reconcile Courageously
Scripture: Ephesians 2:17–19
“For through him we both have access in one Spirit to the Father.”
Short Thought:
Through Jesus, believers share access to the same Father by the same Spirit. We belong to His household, and that belonging calls us to practice love. Taking a step toward peace may require a humble apology, a willingness to listen, or a difficult conversation. Reconciliation can take time, and trust may need rebuilding. We can faithfully take responsibility for our part and seek peace with humility.
Action:
Take one thoughtful step toward peace with another believer. Offer a sincere apology, request a conversation, or listen carefully without preparing a defense.
Prayer:
Father, give me courage to pursue peace and humility to listen. Help me acknowledge my own wrongs without excuses. Guide my words and timing, and work in our hearts as we seek healing. Amen.
Questions:
- Is there someone with whom you need to pursue peace?
- What fear or attitude is keeping you from taking the next faithful step?
Day 5: Rebuild Together
Scripture: Ephesians 2:19–22
“In him you also are being built together into a dwelling place for God by the Spirit.”
Short Thought:
In Christ, we are members of God’s household. Built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Jesus as the cornerstone, the church grows as God joins His people together. Each member has a place in its shared life. Our preferences must yield to our loyalty to Christ and our love for one another. As we serve, pray, and encourage, we participate in what God is building.
Action:
Choose one specific way to strengthen your church this week: serve in a ministry, encourage a member, welcome someone new, or invite someone to worship with you.
Prayer:
Lord, thank You for giving me a place in Your household. Keep Jesus central in our church. Help me serve faithfully, love generously, and join others in making the gospel known. Build us together for Your glory. Amen.
Questions:
- How would seeing yourself as a responsible member of God’s household change your involvement in church?
- What can you contribute this week to help your church grow in unity and reach others for Christ?
