The Preeminence of Christ Week One Devotionals: The Gospel that Transforms Lives

The Book of Colossians

Sermon Date: Sunday, November 2, 2025
Scripture: Colossians 1:1-8

Day 1 – Faith Receives the Gospel

Scripture:
“We always thank God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, when we pray for you, since we heard of your faith in Christ Jesus…”
Colossians 1:3–4

Thought:
Faith is not self-generated—it is a gracious gift from God that enables us to receive the Gospel. True faith is not intellectual agreement or moral improvement. It is being fully persuaded that Jesus is who He says He is and trusting Him as Lord and Savior.

Action:
Examine your heart. Have you truly received the Gospel by faith, or have you settled for moral behavior without heart transformation? Ask God to renew your faith and deepen your dependence on Christ alone.

Prayer:
Lord Jesus, thank You for the gift of faith. I believe You are my Savior, my Redeemer, and my King. Help me to trust You fully and not in my own goodness or maturity. Let my faith be alive, active, and anchored in You. Amen.

Questions:

*What evidence in your life shows that your faith has produced real transformation?

*Are there areas where you’ve relied more on moral effort than on Gospel grace?

Day 2 – Love Reveals the Gospel

Scripture:
“…and of the love that you have for all the saints.”
Colossians 1:4

Thought:
Love is the visible fruit of invisible faith. When the Gospel transforms us, love flows from us—it is sacrificial,
patient, and forgiving. True Gospel love dies to self and lives for others.

Action:
Choose one person today who is difficult to love. Pray for them and take one tangible action of kindness
toward them. Let love reveal the Gospel in your relationships.

Prayer:
Father, thank You for loving me through Christ. Teach me to love as You love—to overlook offenses, to serve
without recognition, and to forgive quickly. May my love for others reveal Your Gospel truth. Amen.

Questions:

*Who is God calling you to love selflessly right now?

*How can you die to self-daily so that Christ’s love flows through you?

Day 3 – Hope Reinforces the Gospel

Scripture:
“…because of the hope laid up for you in heaven…”
Colossians 1:5

Thought:
Hope is the anchor of the believer’s soul. It keeps us steady when life is uncertain because it looks beyond
this world to the promises of God. Our hope in Christ strengthens our faith and fuels our love.

Action:
Write down three promises from God’s Word that give you hope. Meditate on them throughout the day. Let
your confidence in Christ shape your attitude and actions.

Prayer:
Lord, You are my living hope. When I face trials or doubts, remind me that my future is secure in You.
Strengthen me to live today with joy and endurance because my hope is laid up in heaven. Amen.

Questions:

*How does your eternal hope affect how you handle today’s challenges?

*What promises of God give you the most comfort and confidence?

Day 4 – Grace Reproduces the Gospel

Scripture:
“…the Gospel, which has come to you, as indeed in the whole world it is bearing fruit and increasing…”
Colossians 1:6

Thought:
The true Gospel never stays still—it multiplies. Grace that has taken root in our hearts will bear fruit through
our lives. We become instruments of God’s grace, spreading His message of salvation to others.

Action:
Share your testimony or a simple Gospel truth with someone today. Pray that God would use your life to bear
fruit in others.

Prayer:
Lord Jesus, may Your grace not stop with me. Let my words, actions, and witness draw others to You. Bear
fruit through my life for Your glory, and let the Gospel increase wherever You send me. Amen.

Questions:

*Who in your life needs to hear the Gospel from you?

*What fruit of grace is visible in your life today?

Day 5 – Witnesses Relay the Gospel

Scripture:
“…just as you learned it from Epaphras, our beloved fellow servant. He is a faithful minister of Christ on your
behalf…”

Colossians 1:7–8

Thought:
The Gospel spreads through faithful witnesses. Like Epaphras, we are called to relay what we’ve received.
We are not meant to be spiritual reservoirs that only receive—but rivers through which life flows.

Action:
Pray for boldness and opportunities to share the Gospel. Commit to intentionally disciple or encourage at
least one person in their walk with Christ.

Prayer:
Father, thank You for those who shared the Gospel with me. Make me a faithful witness like Epaphras. Help
me to speak truth with love, courage, and compassion so that others might be transformed by Jesus. Amen.

Questions:

*Who has been an “Epaphras” in your life—someone who shared the Gospel with you?

*How can you now become that person for someone else?
