Day 1: A Personal Confession
Scripture:
“Simon Peter replied, ‘You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.’” — Matthew 16:16
Short Thought:
When Jesus asked His disciples who people believed He was, they repeated the opinions of the crowd. Then Jesus made the question personal: “Who do you say that I am?” Peter confessed that Jesus is the Christ—the promised Messiah and Son of God. The church is not built on popular opinions or cultural approval. It is built on the unchanging truth of who Jesus is. We must each move beyond knowing what others say about Jesus and personally confess Him as Savior and Lord.
Action:
Write your own one-sentence confession of who Jesus is and what His lordship means in your life. Look for an opportunity to share that truth with someone today.
Prayer:
Jesus, You are the Christ, the Son of the living God. Keep me from allowing the opinions of others to weaken my faith. Give me courage to confess You boldly and submit every part of my life to Your authority. Amen.

- Is my understanding of Jesus based on personal faith or merely on what others have told me?
- In what area of my life do I need to more fully recognize the authority of Jesus?
Day 2: The Church Belongs to Jesus
Scripture:
“And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church.” — Matthew 16:18
Short Thought:
Jesus did not say, “I will build your church.” He said, “I will build My church.” We may worship, serve, give, and create treasured memories in a local church, but those things do not make us its owners. Jesus founded the church, purchased it with His blood, and holds the plans for its future. We are not owners who have the right to redesign His house according to our preferences. We are trusted servants called to faithfully follow the Master Builder’s plans.
Action:
Pay attention to the way you speak about the church today. Replace thoughts of ownership and personal preference with this simple reminder: “Jesus, this is Your church.”
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, forgive me for the times I have treated Your church as though it belonged to me. Replace my preferences with obedience and my desire for control with humble service. Help me honor Your plans for Your church. Amen.
Questions:
- Have I ever evaluated the church primarily according to my personal preferences?
- What would change if I consistently remembered that the church belongs to Jesus?
Day 3: Trust the Victorious Builder
Scripture:
“I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.” — Matthew 16:18
Short Thought:
The future of the church does not depend on our ability to hold everything together. Jesus promised that He would build and preserve His church. This truth destroys both pride and panic. We cannot take credit for what only Christ can build, and we do not need to despair when ministry becomes difficult. Death could not hold Jesus in the grave, and the powers of hell cannot defeat His redeeming purpose. Our responsibility is faithfulness; the power and victory belong to Christ.
Action:
Identify one concern you have about your church or its future. Surrender that concern to Jesus in prayer, and then choose one faithful step you can take without fear or anxiety.
Prayer:
Jesus, You are the victorious Builder of Your church. Forgive me when I depend on human strength or become fearful about the future. Help me trust Your promise, rest in Your power, and faithfully complete the work You have given me. Amen.

- Am I responding to challenges in the church with pride, panic, or trust in Christ?
- What would faithful service look like for me in this season?
Day 4: Using the Keys of the Kingdom
Scripture:
“I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven.” — Matthew 16:19
Short Thought:
Jesus has entrusted His church with the good news that He saves. The gospel is the key that announces the open door of grace to everyone who will repent and believe. This authority was not given so Christians could promote themselves, defend personal agendas, or remain safely inside the church. We have been commissioned to go into the world and point people to the King. The keys are not trophies to display; they are a sacred trust to use.
Action:
Choose one person who needs to know Jesus. Pray for that person by name, contact them, and look for an opportunity to invite them to church or share the gospel with them.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for entrusting Your church with the gospel. Give me courage to tell others that salvation is found in Jesus alone. Open doors for spiritual conversations and help me represent Your truth with grace, humility, and love. Amen.

- Who am I regularly praying for and encouraging to trust in Jesus?
- Where has personal comfort replaced obedience to Christ’s commission in my life?
Day 5: Faithful Servants in His House
Scripture:
“Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men.” — Colossians 3:23
Short Thought:
Because the church belongs to Jesus, our assignment is not to gain influence, receive recognition, or insist on getting our way. Our calling is to serve Him faithfully. The church is strongest when its people surrender their individual preferences and unite under the lordship of Christ. Every ministry, decision, resource, sermon, and song should reflect the truth that Jesus is King. The central question is not whether Jesus will build His church—He has already promised that He will. The question is whether we will gladly take our place beneath His authority.
Action:
Serve someone in your church today without seeking recognition. Ask God to reveal any preference, criticism, or personal agenda that you need to surrender to Him.
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, this is Your church, and I am Your servant. Forgive me for the times I have made church about myself. Replace selfishness with surrender, criticism with prayer, and preference with obedience. Help me confess You boldly, trust You completely, and serve You faithfully. Amen.
