Executive Spiritual Formations Pastor
Ashton was born and raised in Heavener, Oklahoma. He grew up attending church as a child but stopped attending during middle school. Because he had been raised in church, Ashton assumed he was a Christian. This false understanding of salvation led to many years of fear and misery in his life. During his freshman year of high school, Ashton attended a youth worship service at First Baptist Church Heavener. That night, after hearing the gospel, he repented of his sin and placed his faith in Jesus Christ alone for salvation. He was baptized the following Sunday and began living for Christ.
During his junior year of high school, Ashton met his wife, Jaxi, and the two began dating. They later went on a mission trip to Nashville, Tennessee, where God called Ashton into pastoral ministry. He made this calling public the following Sunday at First Baptist Church Heavener. After graduating, Ashton served as the student pastor at First Baptist Church Heavener. He and Jaxi were married on June 16, 2018, and together they served there for three years. In March 2019, God called them to Edmond’s First, where they have been serving ever since.
During their time at Edmond’s First, God has richly blessed both their ministry and their family. Ashton and Jaxi have three children: Asher, Colibri, and Lottie. Ashton’s greatest passions are preaching and teaching the Bible, discipling others, and lovingly leading God’s people. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with family and friends, studying the Bible, watching OU football, and staying active.
Ashton earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Arkansas and a Master of Theological Studies from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He is currently pursuing a Doctor of Ministry degree at Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.
Some of Ashton’s favorite books include The Doctrine of Repentance by Thomas Watson, The Heart of Christ by Thomas Goodwin, Revival Praying by Leonard Ravenhill, The Soul Winner by Charles Spurgeon, and Thoughts for Young Men by J.C. Ryle.
As the Executive Spiritual Formations Pastor, Ashton leads the Spiritual Formations team and assists age-range pastors and directors in implementing the church’s vision through Connection Groups and the ministries of Edmond’s First.
“Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you blameless before the presence of His glory with great joy, to the only God, our Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, dominion, and authority, before all time and now and forever. Amen.” Jude 1:24-25
